Family Day Out

With Family Day bookings, we welcome more than climbers to join the adventure! This is the booking to share an experience with everyone in the family.*

How is this different than a Guided Climbing booking?

Family Day bookings are oriented towards providing an outdoor experience for the whole family. Unlike Guided Climbing bookings, where only registered climbers are permitted to participate, Family Days encourage siblings and parents to join the outing - even if they don’t plan on climbing - at no extra charge. This means we may choose climbing sites with less of a hike and more space at the base of the crag, and focus more on getting climbing in than teaching new skills.

* To avoid overcrowding climbing sites and to ensure we maintain a safe guide-to-participant ratio, total group size will be limited to 6 people. The maximum number of climbers will be limited to 4.

What do I need to bring?

If you have climbing gear (shoes, harness, helmet), bring it! If not, rentals are included in the booking for all climbers.

All climbers should bring the following:

  • Comfortable, athletic clothes with layers for changes in weather

  • Comfortable, athletic shoes (rubber soled shoes are ideal)

  • Sun protection

  • Water (2L for a half day, and 3-4L for a full day)

  • Snacks and/or packed lunch

  • A good attitude!

I will ensure that we have all required climbing equipment, a satellite communication device, and a first aid kit.

Important Notes

  • All children who will be climbing must be at least 5 years old and 35 lbs.

  • All participants must be physically capable of hiking to the climbing area. Adults are responsible for carrying any small children who may need it.

  • Bookings with children under 12 must have at least 2 adults (either as a climber or a non-climbing participant) to ensure that children are supervised while an adult is present.

  • Bookings with children under 18 must have at least 1 adult present (either as a climber or a non-climbing participant).

  • All participants are required to wear helmets, regardless of whether they are climbing.

Example Itinerary- Half Day

8:00 am- Meet at parking area. Brief participants on the plan and safety precautions. Final bathroom break at trailhead, if available.

8:15 am- Begin hiking to climbing area. All participants must be physically capable of hiking and have the clothing and footwear to hike safely.

8:45 am- Arrive at climbing area.* Briefly review site safety and put on climbing harnesses and helmets. Guide (and photographer, if booked) will begin setting up the climbing site.

9:00 am- Climbers begin climbing, receiving coaching and instruction as desired. Family members are welcome to spectate, and photographer will begin taking photos from the wall. As climbers finish climbing routes, the guide(s) will establish new routes nearby.

11:15 am- Between 11:00 and 11:15 am, climbers will finish their last routes and the guide(s) will begin breaking down the site. Once all participants and climbing equipment are accounted for, we will make our way back to the parking area for departure.

* Approach times can be highly variable, so arrival at the base of the climbing area may be earlier or later than in the example shown here. With Family Days, we will work with you to find accessible areas for all family members.
